Some of my favorites

I thought I'd post about some of my favorite authors and give you links to their Amazon page so that you can check out their work as well! Just click on their name to get your next great escape!

Monique Martin: I have read every book in Monique's Out of Time series and have to say it is one of my top three favorites of all time. Monique's characters, big or small, are so vivid and alive that you'll truly feel like you know them.

Maria Rachel Hooley: I have read several of Maria's books and the one that especially blew me away was October Breezes. FANTASTIC BOOK!

David Dalglish: One of David's many series' is another one of my top three favorites. The Paladins was an amazing journey!

J.L. Bryan: A couple of months ago I started reading J.L. Bryan's fairy series called Songs of Magic and I haven't been able to stop since. This series is simply fun. It's exactly what some of us need when life gets heavy and we need to get away.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

I went to see the Amazing Spiderman 2  with my son last night. He thought it was the best movie ever, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. There were a lot of story lines in the movie and they all felt rushed. Don't get me wrong, it had some great moments, but overall it was a blur of plot connecting dots that felt like some were placed after they watched the movie for the first time. It was like someone realized and thought "that doesn't make sense. We'd better put in a quick explanation."

I don't regret going. No way. A not so great Marvel movie with my son is still more fun than just about anything else I can think of. Still, I'm wishing we would've gone to see Captain America instead.

Thrilling sadness

Around two years ago, my son and I began reading the Harry Potter series. This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but my son is special. You see, though we didn't know it then, my son has Asperger's Syndrome and it was very hard for me to connect to him outside of video games. Though I don't mind video games, I can't say they are my "thing". When we started reading Harry Potter together, we suddenly had something in common that developed into a passion. Harry Potter was OUR thing.
Now it's officially over and I find myself very sad. We finished the Harry Potter series today and then watched the last movie tonight. Though it was an AMAZING series, the sadness doesn't come from the story being over. It comes from a fear that we may never capture that magic again. A fear that the two of us won't connect with something as deeply TOGETHER as we have this series. This has been a large part of our lives for the last two years. We have read each and every word together. It has become the best thing I've ever done with my son. It will be forever one of the greatest memories I will carry and I hope that he carries them as well.
He has already chosen our next series and it is the Spirit Animal series. I know nothing about it, but I don't care if it's the worst thing I've ever read. I'm going to read it to him like it's the last thing I'll ever read.
I love you, son.

Time flies!

It's been a busy month so I apologize for not having posted in a while. How are you all? Things are good here in Kansas. Spring is here (though it's snowing in the northwestern part of the state right now) and we've been working outside cleaning up the place. We live in the country and have TONS of trees and bushes that required some attention. Our burn pile is monstrous! It'll have to wait as we're in a burn ban currently. It's crazy to think how much snow we had this winter yet we're still starving for moisture.

Anyway, enough about that. I have starting writing my next book. It is something that my daughter asked me for last year and I promised that when I finished Axiom Theory that I would write it for her. It is called The Toadstool Princess: The Chronicles of Wyk. It (of course) is a fairy book that is meant for younger readers. Don't worry though, I'll be back to the usual contemporary/sci-fi fantasy action with the third book of The Chosen series right after this one is finished up!

Hope life is treating you all well. Take care and have a great day!

A fabulous first day of spring!

I'll tell you what...evenings don't get much better than they did last night.

The weather was a perfect 74 degrees with a gentle breeze. I spent about an hour in the hammock reading and then came inside to have a Pokemon battle with my son. After supper, we went to our Thursday night family hangout. If you're ever in Salina, Kansas, check out the Ad Astra Coffee and Book shop. It is a blast and they make a great cup of coffee! On Thursdays they have a gentleman that plays his guitar and sings about any old tune you can think of. It's quiet and cozy. The best part was that while I was enjoying my mocha, I got to watch my wife and daughter dance. FUN!

Love my family. Love my life.

Take care all. HAPPY SPRING!
